Training is a powerful tool for improving the quality of palliative care. Of course, this is true only if it helps to address problems specifically related to a lack of knowledge rather than to work processes or staff shortages. How do you effectively analyse the situation in your team, identify the root causes of problems, develop a comprehensive action plan, and understand which causes can be addressed through training? Join the workshop series to work through this in practice.

The workshops are designed for palliative care professionals, including healthcare organisers, heads of institutions, departments and NGOs, methodologists and educators, doctors, nurses, social workers or spiritual care providers, and psychologists.

The workshops are conducted by Esmina Kayibkhanova, an expert in developing and implementing educational programmes for medical specialists. Esmina manages the Training Centre at the Palliative Care Centre with the Moscow Healthcare Department. It was established five years ago, during which Esmina`s team has developed 15 unique programmes on pain management and other symptoms. 7,500 specialists have attended lectures at the Centre, and 2,900 people have participated in advanced training programmes.

The workshops are held online in English and Russian, and participation is free with prior registration.

The series consists of two workshops with a homework assignment between the sessions:
First workshop: ‘Diagnosing and Treating Problems in Palliative Care. What Can Be Solved Through Staff Training?

  • February 8, Saturday
  • 09:00-11:00 CET
We will diagnose the most common problems in providing palliative care, decompose them into components using various techniques and identify their root causes. Then, we will analyse which causes can be addressed through training and try to plan the ‘treatment’ of these problems.

Mandatory homework after the first workshop: Using the proposed framework, analyse the key problems in providing palliative care in your organization, region, or country.
Second workshop: ‘Understanding Whom, What, and How Exactly to Train’

  • March 29, Saturday
  • 09:00-11:00 CET
You will share your homework results with colleagues and we will analyse the tasks related to training in more detail: we will discuss how to study the target audience of the training, accurately determine its needs and formulate educational outcomes, and how to select training formats.
