Professional contacts are priceless to the PACED community. That is why we are so happy when we learn about the international visits of palliative care leaders to each other. Recently, such a meeting was held in Georgia. Dr. Roman Galuza and Julia Cirule-Galuza, Head of the Liepaja Palliative Care Service for Children in Latvia, visited the Firefly World Children's Hospice in Tbilisi.
Irakli Vetsko, Director of the Hospice, noted that it was a great opportunity to show how they work, share their hands-on experience, and also learn from colleagues:
«And, of course, it’s always nice to meet face to face. We spent some time asking each other various questions about our work; how things are done in our respective countries; what are some of the challenges and how we overcome those», — said Irakli.
This visit inspired Julia and her colleague:
«The Firefly World Children’s Hospice is an island of peace for families who live in constant crisis due to the illness of their children. Many light, bright subjects of paintings are based on the famous children’s fairy tale in Georgia. A close-knit team capable of finding an individual approach to each family. Single rooms, affordable equipment, sensory room, physiotherapy room. A terrace for walking with the opportunity to sit under the crown of a spreading cherry tree. A well-thought-out structure that allows you to help children even when there is simply no government funding! Thanks to Irakli, Manana, and others working at the hospice for the opportunity to get to know and see their work!».
