The grant was awarded to Yulia Streletskaya, an anesthesiologist-resuscitator and Head of the Centre for Respiratory Support, Palliative Care, and Rehabilitation at the Public Foundation Ömirge Sen, Kazakhstan. Yulia Streletskaya

‘Each region has its own palliative care needs, and there are effective tools to identify them. International conferences provide participants with the opportunity to share their countries’ experiences.’

In 2025, interest in the programme notably increased, with 50 applications from 12 countries. The grant recipients were Maral Turdumatova (Kyrgyzstan), a senior physician at the First Children’s Hospice, and Anele Bekturova (Kazakhstan), an associate professor in Nursing at the Kazakh National Medical University and a palliative care expert. With PACED’s support, Maral attended the International Symposium on Paediatric Pain in the United Kingdom, while Anel participated in the EAPC Congress in Finland.

Maral Turdumatova

‘Conference knowledge is always at the forefront. I aim to adapt international ideas to our local context.’
Anele Bekturova

‘In Kazakhstan and throughout Central Asia, nurses have traditionally assisted doctors. There is an urgent need for independent palliative nursing.’
